Growing up, especially in Nigeria, marriage is one of those things people just expect from everybody. People don’t even ask if a person wants to get married or have children, they just assume that they do.
1. Bimbo Akintola
Nigerian actress Bimbo Akintola is tired of people asking her when she’s going to get married. According to the actress, she’s not looking for a husband neither does she need one. She said:
It is high time Nigerians start getting things right. As for criticisms, I ignore them so much, I’m not looking for a husband and I don’t need one. I don’t need anything. I’m a complete person. I only do things that make me happy, because I believe and I understand the reality that there is just one life and you should live it to the maximum.
Happiness and peace should be the key. I’m not searching for a husband, because the rumor that I’m searching for a husband has been given me wahala. That is why all kinds of people from left, right and center are looking for me saying they want to marry me. Please, I’m using this opportunity to tell everybody, I am not looking for a husband.
2. Halima Abubakar
Nigerian actress Halima Abubakar took to Instagram to write simply:
I DONT WANT TO EVER GET MARRIED. THOSE IN IT ARE MISERABLE. FORGET THE SMILING. I DID NOT ASK YOU NOT TO MARRY.
3. Tina Mba
Nigerian actress Tina Mba who was previously married was asked during an in interview with Modern Ghana if she misses marriage and her thoughts about it to which she answered:
No, I’m not missing marriage, trust me, I’m not. Honestly, people have asked and asked and I keep telling them that I’d rather be happy for 10 years than be unhappy for one hour because if you are unhappy, it means you would age, you will have hypertension and you won’t take care of yourself. And you can’t love other people because you are unhappy. So, I’m a free bird.
4. Empress Njamah
Nollywood actress Empress Njamah also gave her thoughts on getting married saying it is not the thing on her mind right now. Empress explained:
Marriage is not the thing on my mind right now. I cannot marry my colleague! It would be boring living in the same house with someone you know his job so well as well as his income! Should you be more popular or get richer than the man, then you are in trouble as this could be dangerous. If you are on six figures and he is on less, there is trouble. Men and their egos.
5. Ini Edo
Finally, actress Ini Edo who had a child through surrogacy also opened up about why she’s not seeking out marriage at the moment. Ini said in an interview with Stella Dimoko Korkus:
Right now, marriage isn’t my priority, I’ve been married before and it wasn’t exactly a bed of roses. Marriage is a good thing instituted by God and ultimately most people’s desire but I am not just crazy about the distractions and the complications that come with it
